Mastering the Art of French Cooking...

I'm so excited to write today's blog entry!
My friend Mary and I have been planning a Julia Child dinner party for quite a while. It all started with the fantastically brilliant movie, Julie and Julia! It was love at first sight for me and I quickly ran out and bought the 2 volume copy of Mastering the Art of French Cooking. Now, those who know me will laugh but I do love a good cookbook as well as a challenge. With Mary on board, we decided to make recipes out of the book and invite 4 other couples for a dining experience.

Our menu included various French cheeses, fig and berry jams, baguettes and crackers, fruit and of course French wines and Champagnes. Our dinner was a four-course meal with Julia's French Onion Soup (oh my goodness...YUM!), Boeuf Bourguignon with potatoes and asparagus, salad with her vinaigrette and her chocolate almond cake! We were stuffed...not to mention LOTS of wine!!! Mary and I prepared for 2 days, cooking and decorating and it was a blast.

The wisteria was blooming, the music was hopping and the wine was flowing! It really was a night to remember. Bon Appetite!

  1. It pains me just a tad to look at these pictures. I know that if I lived closer , I would have been filling one of those seats at your finely decorated table. My husband would have been next to me cracking jokes and keeping things lively the entire time.

Let's talk about your ensemble, shall we? You look amazing and adorable all rolled into one. How skinny are you? Where did you get the dress? And why isn't there a close up of your shoes?

The food looks delicious. You look the happiest and again, I am so sad to have missed.

Lastly, I do hope your oh so lucky guests had the courtesy to say thank you upon their departure, because are they aware of the time & effort that you put forth? They were so fortunate to have been in attendance that night, if only i could have been too.
